In its first eleven years, the European Cup went to Spain six times (Real Madrid), Italy three times (Internazionale twice, AC Milan once) and Portugal twice (Benfica). Celtic were the first team from Northern Europe to win it, and Manchester United in 1968 were the second. AC Milan won it for a second time in 1970, but the next team from Southern Europe to win it was Juventus in 1985 (the final overshadowed by the Heysel Stadium disaster).
